MyGreenGenz.com.au Seeks to Link Me with My Career through
Australian School-based Apprenticeships

The MyGreenGenz.com.au website enables school students, school coordinators and employers to be up with the latest Australian School-based Apprenticeships information and services according to Steve Wyborn, National Business Development Manager for Sarina Russo Apprenticeship Services. Mr Wyborn said Sarina Russo Apprenticeship Services developed the website to make it as easy as possible for schools to link students with employers who are keen to take on apprentice. “Initiatives like MyGreenGenz.com.au will attract more and more school students into a trade career and help counter national training shortages and demand for skilled tradespeople.

Mark Berlese

“We hope MyGreenGenz.com.au becomes the Seek.com for Australian School-based Apprentices and gives them a head start in their careers through a practical 'hands on' learning experience. “After much research amongst our target market we decide to go with domain name MyGreenGenz.com.au - ‘My’ for the ‘me generation’, ‘Green’ for ‘freshness’ and ‘inexperience’ and ‘Genz’ for ‘Generation Z’,” Mr Wyborn said. Mr Kees Weel, CEO of PWR Performance Products, is a big supporter of the MyGreenGenz.com.au initiative and believes an apprenticeship is a first-rate career option which can deliver professional, financial and personal rewards.

Mr Weel said the tight labour market plus the expected long-term demand for skills provides “tradies” with employment sustainability and fantastic career opportunities. “As employers we must understand the benefits of investing in training because if you think training is expensive try ignorance. “It’s important to foster a workplace culture where apprentices are treated as learners as well as workers,” Mr Weel said.

Mr Wyborn said these days of 4% unemployment will not last forever but an apprenticeship gives students the options to branch out into other areas in the future. “One of the myths about taking a trade is that you will be ‘on-the-tools’ for the rest of your working life. “This is not the case because for many, an apprenticeship is the first step to owning your own business or progressing through to senior management positions. “Kees Weel is a classic example of some one who started off as an apprentice on the tools but who is now running a multi million dollar business. “We must persuade young people, their parents and teachers that an apprenticeship is a first rate career option and can be a stepping stone to owning your own business or progressing through to senior management positions.

“The beauty of School-based apprenticeships is they allow Year 11 and 12 students to gain a national vocational and technical qualification while pursuing their senior secondary certificate, and earn a wage for time spent in productive work. “Sarina Russo Apprenticeship Services is funded by the Australian Government as a Australian Apprenticeship Centre and provides the following free services:
