Here’s how to get that job you have always wanted. Follow this five-step process and you are on the pathway to job success.
Step One: Research Phase
There are three parts to this phase
We know that successful people are people who set goals. If you want to get that job you have always dreamed of you MUST set goals. So why should I set goals?
You have the power to make a choice. You must decide what you want from life, why you want it and how you plan to achieve it. Only you can do this. No-one else can do this for you.
You must focus exclusively on this goal. Do not be distracted.
Whenever anyone commences the journey towards their goal, they will attract barriers to their progress. They are a test of your will power. Welcome them as such. Use them to make you stronger and wiser. Over one hundred banks rejected Walt Disney before he finally found someone to finance his idea of Disneyland.
Write down your goals. Display them where you can see them at the start of each new day and at the end of each day. Remind yourself constantly of your goals.
Think of how you are going to achieve your goal. Write down all the things that you will need to do to make it happen. Formulate an action plan.
You will be surprised how many of your friends or friends of your friends and family will help you if you communicate your goals and dreams. Use your network to help you. Ask them for help. You are not alone.
Your goals will remain as dreams in the sky without action. You must make the effort to do something. Action makes your dreams come true. Make a list of what you are going to do and then DO IT!
Life changes. Review your plan regularly. Update it. Modify it. Listen to the advice of others and incorporate their view into your plan.
Reward yourself when you have successes. You have put in the hard work…so treat yourself with something special when you achieve a milestone.
Do not let others knock you off your path. Stick to your goals. Accept nothing but success. Never give up.
Be a walking question mark. Treat the world as a gigantic classroom in which you are the student. Analyse what happens to you. Search for the learning potential in all that you do. Enjoy the journey.
It is not possible to know all there is to know. Recognise this. Be humble. Be always willing to learn from others.
At the end of each day reflect on what has happened to you. Think of how you might do things differently. Look always for the opportunity to improve yourself.
Remember that things change. Accept that which you cannot change. Change that which you can change.
Give it a go. Accept people for what they are. Accept yourself.
Try different approaches. Write a different style of letter. Take a different approach to getting that job interview. Throw caution to the wind. Be bold. Be brave.
Actively seek out the reasons for your failure. Make the necessary changes. Listen to the advice of others. People have a great deal to offer you if only you would let them.
Actions speak louder than words. Success is built on taking action. Treat the world as a laboratory in which you can experiment with different approaches. Accept the inevitability of mistakes and problems. Live life.
Reflect on your life for one moment. We learn more from the hard times, failures and mistakes than from the good times. Do not be hard on yourself. See the tests as opportunities to grow quickly.
Be clear in your mind what you want to do and what you need to do. Then do it. Approach your goals with a focused mind.
Develop a systematic approach. Constantly refine it. The rewards will come with perseverance.
Goals are specific, measurable and timely. A job search goal might read:
"To phone three employers within the Hospitality Industry every day"
Identify all the positive aspects of yourself. Write them down in a list. Number them from the most important to the least important. This is what you are selling to an employer. This is what you have to offer. These are the benefits that you are offering to the employer. Think about yourself from the employer’s point of view.
Look at yourself as others see you. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What aspects of yourself do you need to change? Be honest. Listen to the self-talk inside your head. Replace it with a more positive attitude. Love who you are. You are unique and special. There never has been or ever will be another person like you. Treat yourself as if you are one of a kind.
Make a list of all the things that might prevent you from achieving your goals. Develop a strategy for overcoming them. Are there things that you have the power to change? Then change them.
Smile in the face of adversity. It is your best friend. Overcoming adversity is part of the climb on your journey to the summit of your dreams.
To create new realities you must let go of old realities. Make a list of all the things that you will need to say goodbye to as you set about getting the job of your dreams. You must prepare yourself for the new reality.
We never stop learning throughout our life. Make a list of all the skills and knowledge that you must acquire if you are to achieve your goals. Get the training you need as part of your plan. Put the spare time that you have to productive use.
Make a list of all the people you know who might help you. Write down next to each person how they are going to help you. Approach them. Ask them for their assistance.
Develop a plan of attack. Write down all the tasks that you have to do. Be very specific. Place times and dates next to each task. Put them in a diary, electronic organiser or on a sheet of paper next to your bed. Buy a small notebook and write them in your notebook. As you achieve each one, cross it off your list. Do the important things first. You will be surprised by how much you can achieve. Success for you is just around the corner.
Become a master of time. Determine when you want to achieve you gaols and when you will complete tasks. All you really have at your disposal is time. Invest it wisely. Always ask yourself: Is this the best way that I can spend my time?
When you complete goals and achieve tasks….CELEBRATE. Make a list titled: “ Ways to celebrate”. Do something from the list.
Decide what you would like to earn. Think about a long-term salary goal and then a short-term salary goal. A person I knew used to set the salary goal of earning &quo;Their age in their wage." When they earned more they had a real sense of achievement. Set yourself an earnings goal. Will you need to undertake more training and skill development to reach your salary level?
In the industry in which you are looking for work, discover what employers are looking for in their employees? What is the level of qualifications required? What experience is expected? What attitudes do employers expect? What image should you present? These will influence the actions that you will need to incorporate in your action plan. To get to your goal may take time. Be patient. Perseverance, tenacity and a steady approach will ultimately assure you of success.
After you have collected all the information it should be clear to you the aspects of yourself that you will need to improve upon.
